Stripe CEO Highlights Stablecoin Adoption for Business Payments
Stripe CEO Patrick Collison has articulated why businesses are increasingly turning to stablecoins for financial operations. In a Hacker News thread on September 5, 2025, Collison emphasized that stablecoins provide faster, cheaper, and more reliable payment solutions compared to traditional systems. This shift in perspective comes as Stripe and Paradigm unveiled Tempo, a blockchain specifically designed for stablecoin transactions.
Collison noted that while Stripe had been skeptical of crypto's utility in payments over the past decade, the rise of stablecoins for real-world financial activities has changed the company's stance. He cited examples such as SpaceX using stablecoin infrastructure for hard-to-reach markets, Latin American fintech DolarApp leveraging it for banking services, and an Argentinian bike importer streamlining supplier payments through Stripe's dashboard.
Tempo, Collison clarified, is not intended for consumer-facing transactions but rather functions as a backend system akin to SWIFT or ACH. The focus remains on enhancing efficiency for businesses rather than catering to speculative crypto interests.
